Neuromuscular Reeducation Therapies – MET & NMR

Neuromuscular Reeducation Therapies: Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) and Neuromuscular Repatterning (NMR)

MASS-0301 - Neuromuscular Reeducation Therapies: Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) and Neuromuscular Repatterning (NMR)

Teaching the Body to Remember, Guiding Muscles Back to Harmony

This advanced training explores Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) and Neuromuscular Repatterning (NMR)—two evidence-based, highly effective systems for addressing chronic tension, pain patterns, and movement dysfunction. Students will learn to identify and correct postural imbalances, joint fixations, and muscular compensation patterns using precise, gentle, and client-active methods. These skills integrate seamlessly into both clinical and relaxation-focused massage practices.

Learning Objectives & Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the principles and physiological effects of MET and NMR
  • Assess common muscular imbalances and joint restrictions
  • Apply MET protocols for restoring range of motion and reducing hypertonicity
  • Use NMR techniques to retrain movement and support neuromuscular coordination
  • Integrate these techniques safely and effectively into full massage sessions

👥

Target Audience

Bodywork students with foundational anatomy and hands-on training Licensed massage therapists seeking to refine clinical skills Bodyworkers interested in orthopedic and rehabilitative applications Therapists working with athletes, chronic pain clients, or movement dysfunctions Advanced students in massage therapy training programs

📝

Prerequisites

To ensure student safety and learning success, the following are required:

  • Completion of a foundational massage therapy program
  • Anatomy & Physiology coursework (must include musculoskeletal and respiratory systems)
  • Prior hands-on practice with palpation and basic massage techniques
  • Current or past licensure as a massage therapist, or enrollment in an advanced massage training program Note: Students must be comfortable giving and receiving hands-on work on the chest wall, sternum, ribs, diaphragm, and neck, and must agree to uphold a trauma-informed, consent-based practice environment.

🎓

Assessment & Evaluation

Instructor observation during hands-on practice Completion of technique review worksheet Partner feedback on clarity, comfort, and effectiveness

  • Final mini-assessment: perform and explain a basic MET + NMR sequence
