Structural Anatomy and Kinesiology of the Pelvis and Hip

Pelvis & Hip Anatomy and Kinesiology for Posture & Locomotion

ANAT-KINE-0205 - Pelvis & Hip Anatomy and Kinesiology for Posture & Locomotion

Girdle Mechanics, Hip Joint Function, and Coreโ€“Lower Limb Integration

At the juncture of root and rise, the pelvis and hips form the anatomical keystone of balance and motion. This course explores the elegant strength and dynamic potential of the pelvic bowl, tracing the deep stability and muscular grace that emerge from its foundations. Through experiential labs, palpation, and precise anatomical study, students will learn to map, move, and therapeutically support this essential region for postural alignment, functional strength, and emotional grounding. This course focuses on the pelvis and hip, central hubs for weight transfer, gait, and postural organization. Students explore pelvic bones and joints, hip musculature (deep rotators, gluteal group, flexors), and common misalignments influencing low-back, hip, and sacroiliac comfort. Movement labs highlight how pelvic positioning shapes the function of the entire kinetic chain.

Learning Objectives & Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Identify bony landmarks of the pelvis and proximal femur through palpation
  • Describe the structural anatomy and movement dynamics of the hip joints and ligaments
  • Recognize the functional role of hip flexors, adductors, gluteals, and deep rotators
  • Understand pelvic alignment in relation to gait, posture, and compensatory tension patterns
  • Apply kinesiology of the hip and pelvis to clinical myofascial assessment and treatment planning
