Anatomy and Physiology of the Integumentary System — The Skin We Live In

Anatomy and Physiology of the Integumentary System

ANAT-PHYS-0102 - Anatomy and Physiology of the Integumentary System

The Skin We Live In – Layers of Protection, Perception, and Presence

The skin is the largest organ of the body—our protective shell, our sensory veil, our living threshold. This course explores the structure and function of the integumentary system—skin, hair, nails, glands—and how it relates to the work of massage therapists. Students learn tissue layers, sensory receptors, thermoregulation, wound-healing basics, and skin-related contraindications. Through palpation, observation, and case analysis, learners develop competence in safe, informed touch.

In-person or live online; lecture, diagrams, interactive movement, palpation-based discussion, and review

  • Recognize the accessory organs of the skin, including glands, hair, and nails
  • Describe the basic types of skin cells and their renewal cycles
  • Understand the sensory receptors and their relevance to therapeutic modalities
  • Use accurate anatomical and physiological terminology to describe the integumentary system

👥

Target Audience
